Compaq Tandem 5258ACL The 5258ACL tape drive is a high performance, high capacity, streaming cartridge tape product designed for use on midrange and high-end computing systems. The 5258ACL tape drive features 10 cartridges, with 1.1 TB of native storage capacity (2.2 TB compressed), and transfer speeds of 11 MB/second.
Control Panel The control has a 4-line by 20-character backlit LCD display, four LED indicators and four buttons. Use the control panel to navigate through the menu to select and display operating modes, device status, diagnostic and maintenance functions, device history and error statistics, and system configuration. The display provides a drive and loader status, menu choices, and error messages. The amount of information available is greatly expanded by the scrolling feature. Power Supply The AC Power switch is located on the front panel of the 5258ACL. The nominal voltages are 115 VAC and 240 VAC, and the autoranging power supply adjusts automatically to either of the two operating voltages. The power supply is capable of operating at 50 to 60 HZ without requiring any modification. Tape Cartridge Magazine The 10-cartridge magazine is accessible through the door at the center of the front panel. An electronically controlled lock on the door prevents tampering and inadvertent removal of the magazine. The molded polymer magazine fits into an extruded track that assures precise positioning with respect to the robotics. Integral Fan Cooling To provide optimum cooling for critical parts, a single forced-air fan is mounted on the rear panel. This fan also prevents the drive, robotics, electronics, motors and power supply from overheating. High Capacity Features The 5258ACL tape drive accepts the Super DLTtape 1 cartridge. Native and compressed capacity ranges for the Super DLTtape 1 cartridge are: • Native storage capacity = 110 GB • Compressed storage capacity = 220 GB (2:1 compression ratio)In accordance with industry practice, a typical compression ratio of 2:1 is quoted. Actual compression ratios achieved are dependent on the redundancy of data files being recorded. Backward Read Compatibility (BRC) Transfer Rates Media Format (Uncompressed) BRC Transfer Rate (Nominal, native) (40 GB) Benchmark drive type DLT -1 3.0 MB/second (40 GB) DLT 8000 4.0 MB/second (35 GB) DLT 7000 3.5 MB/second (20 GB) DLT 4000 1.5 MB/second A backward read compatibility feature is available for the 5258ACL drive, which allows it to read formats written on DLTtape IV type media. Transfer rates quoted are nominal reading uncompressed data. Embedded Diagnostics The 5258ACL provides three levels of embedded diagnostics: • The Power-On Self-Test (POST) can perform various verification tests on the processor’s host interface and device control functions, as well as memory tests at power-up. • User diagnostics allow you to change configuration options and provide manual control of cartridge movement to assist the user in diagnosing faults. • CE Diagnostics include more advanced diagnostics to be used by service providers for servicing the ACL. Both User Diagnostics and CE Diagnostics can be selected from the front panel.
Request a Quote or Information Cleaning Cartridge To run a cleaning cartridge, issue a command to run the cartridge from the control panel, or select the Auto Clean mode on the Configure menu,. The procedures that follow describe how to install a cleaning cartridge, how to clean a drive using front panel controls, and how to remove the cleaning cartridge. Required Location for the Cleaning Cartridge If the cleaning cartridge is run only manually, there are no restrictions on the location of the cleaning cartridge; however, if the Auto Clean option is required, one or more slots in the magazine must be reserved by using the Reserved Slots option. Any reserved slots in the magazine become inaccessible to the host software. In these cases, the ACL designates these inaccessible slots as cleaning. |
