Compaq Tandem 5259 & 5257- SDLT
super DLT tape drives for Compaq NonStop™ Himalaya™
S-series servers are now generally available for order and shipment. The Super
DLT tape drive, which is based on the Quantum Super DLTtape drive, addresses the
need for a midrange tape storage product. Adapted for use with NonStop
Himalaya S-series servers by Compaq development partner Tributary Systems,
the Super DLT delivers huge performance and capacity improvements over earlier
midrange tape storage products.
The Super DLT tape product set is available in four
configurations: a manual load model and an automatic cartridge loader (ACL)
model, both for use in a NonStop Himalaya S-series enclosure; a model for
use with a CTL700 or CTL700M tape library; and an ACL model for standalone
tabletop use.
Benefits of Super DLT products
 | Native capacity of 110 GB at 11 MB/s transfer rate
|
 | 2:1 compression allows 220 GB at 22 MB/s |
 | Fully backward read-compatible with DLTtape IV cartridges
|
 | Advanced Metal Powder Media that allows the optical servo
tracks onto the reverse side of the tape |
 | 100 percent of tape’s magnetic side freed up to record data
|
 | No need for magnetic pre-formatting |
 | Laser Guided Magnetic Recording that combines the best of
optical and magnetic technologies |
 | Pivoting Optical Servo that increases high duty cycle
reliability |
 | Magneto-Resistive Cluster Heads for the highest data
density |
 | Highly efficient PRML Channel that creates more tracks on
the tape |

the use of the SCSI extender products listed below. The two types of SCSI
extenders are used in series along with a customer-supplied single-mode
fiber cable. The connection using SCSI extenders is described as follows:
