The 4mm DDS-3 tape drive triples its predecessor's capacity at 12GB, making it a superior solution for workstation backup and archive, as well as data distribution and interchange, for customers in any industry. With data compression, you can store up to 24GB per drive. And with the DDS-3 Autoloader, which holds up to six tape cartridges, you can backup and archive up to 72GB (up to 144GB with compression).

At the same time, the 4mm DDS-3 tape drive maintains backward read/write compatibility with DDS-2, DDS-1, and DDS-DC formats, so your previous investments in 4mm storage solutions are protected. You can restore old archived data, or use the drive for data interchange. The DDS-3 drive's Media Recognition System automatically adjusts to the correct tape format.

And the tape drive is fast. Its native data transfer rate is 1MB per second, and its built-in data compression increases the rate to 2MB per second. That means you can archive up to 57.6GB in an 8-hour window.

The 4mm DDS-3 tape drive also features improved reliability over all previous models, with a 300,000-hour MTBF at a 12 percent duty cycle. Each drive is tested rigorously on Sun systems prior to shipment to ensure highest-possible performance and quality. Each is covered by a three-year warranty. And each is can be fully supported under all standard SunSpectrum service contracts.
