Qualstar TLS-Series Libraries - VXA Technology

Qualstar TLS-Series libraries bring the benefits and advantages of world-class tape automation to VXA technology users. The TLS-4000 family for Ecrix's VXA tape drives economically and reliably automates unattended, lights-out backup and other tape-based applications, protecting data throughout the organization.

VXA technology incorporates a number of breakthroughs that increase performance and reliability while reducing cost. VXA introduces discrete packet format, which substantially improves error recovery rates, and overscanning to virtually eliminate data loss. This unique design reduces cost by decreasing dependence on precision components and assembly. Variable speed operation has also been incorporated to continually adjusts tape speed to match the actual data transfer rate, reducing backhitching.

Proven over thousands of installations worldwide, the TLS-Series automation families incorporate simple, rugged designs that provide years of dependable operation. Servo-controlled, leadscrew-driven mechanisms eliminate failure-prone components that more complex designs require. This approach also yields very precise, self-calibrating positioning accuracy that substantially reduces media wear and increases tape drive reliability.

The TLS-Series incorporates other examples of thoughtful design: Filtered, positive air pressure is maintained within the unit to eliminate airborne contamination for extended media and head life. "Inventory Sentry" uses optical sensors to monitor cartridge movement within the library to insure application continuity. Barcode support in all models means that a complete inventory takes only 70 seconds; while I/O ports give the application complete control over tape import and export.
