By fully leveraging advanced Linear
Tape-Open (LTO) technology, the IBM TotalStorage 3583 Tape Library can provide
an outstanding solution for cost-effectively handling a wide range of backup,
archive, and disaster recovery data storage needs. The breakthrough reliability,
capacity and performance of LTO offers an excellent alternative to DLT, 8mm,
4mm, or 1/4-inch tape drives for streaming data applications such as backup.

Today, all types of businesses rely on data as
a key corporate asset. They want to be able to access data quickly and
reliably, archive large databases and retrieve them when needed, and
complete these tasks economically. .
By fully leveraging advanced Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology, the Ultrium
Scalable Tape Library is designed to provide a cost-effective solution for
handling a wide range of backup, archive, and disaster recovery data storage
needs.
Advanced features
The Ultrium Scalable Tape Library has a variety of advanced
technical features. Remote management capability using a Web browser
provides library control and configuration. Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP) functionality is also included.
The Ultrium Scalable Tape Library has a barcode reader for instant media
verification and inventory. An LCD display on the front panel supports
convenient local review of library status and provides control over local
functions. The door accommodates a one- or twelve-slot cartridge I/O
station, and a key lock helps provide physical security. If your storage
operations require redundant power, an additional DC power supply option is
available.
Software support
You can maximize the power of the IBM 3583 by managing it
with industry-leading tape management solutions such as Tivoli(r) Storage
Manager or other industry-recognized storage software. These solutions offer
highly automated, centrally scheduled, policy-managed backup and archive
facilities to protect data in distributed enterprises.
Why IBM LTO?
LTO is an open tape architecture developed by a consortium
of three world-class storage producers. Open means availability from
multiple vendors. IBM means a new technology from a time-proven and
innovative tape technology leader.
IBM LTO Ultrium drives share best-of-breed technology. Advanced multi-track
recording capabilities, state-of-the-art magneto-resistive (MR) heads, and a
sophisticated track following servo system work together to provide
extremely high recording densities. Error correction code (ECC) function
helps provide data integrity.
IBM and IBM authorized products also provide service and technical support
when you invest in an IBM LTO Ultrium solution-including a complete array of
servers, software, printers, and storage devices.
