The IBM 7334 8mm tape library provides an integrated, cost-effective solution to RS/6000 users of 8mm tape who want unattended backup in an automated tape library. The 7334 supports up to four M2™ (Mammoth-2) 8mm tape drives with 10 fixed and 20 removable slots for 30 8mm cartridges. The 7334 incorporates hardware featuring the IBM developed Adaptive Lossless Data Compression (ALDC). Using this compression technology, the IBM 7334 tape library can deliver up to an astounding 4.5 TB at 432 GB/hour (assuming 2.5:1 compression).

Infrastructure Benefits  Application Benefits
•  Attachability: LVD/SE, LVD/SE, supported by IBM on RS/6000 AIX Version 4.3.3 and later, and by wide range of ISV support Up to four 8mm M2 tape drives provide redundancy in the event of drive failure and allow overlapping or concurrent operations

•  Scalability: From one to four drives. 60 GB per cartridge (150 GB with 2.5:1 compression)

•  Significantly higher data reliability compared to metal-particle media Data transfer rates up to 12 MB/sec (30 MB/sec with 2.5:1 compression)

•  Capable of reading IBM 7208 Model 341/2, IBM 7331 Model 305 and IBM 3449 Library capacity of 1.8 TB (4.5 TB with 2.5:1 compression)

Highlights:

  • Provides up to 150 GB of data storage capacity per cartridge with 2.5:1 compression (60 GB native) and a library capacity of up to 4.5 TB with 2.5:1 compression (1.8 TB native)
  • Increases performance with sustained data transfer rates up to 30 MB/sec with 2.5:1 compression (12 MB/sec native) and total library throughput of up to 432 GB/hour (173 GB/hour native)
  • Is backward read-compatible with earlier IBM 7331 and 7208 media formats
  • Includes self-cleaning functions with SmartClean technology
    designed to improve data integrity

Outstanding price/performance for RS/6000 systems
The IBM 7334 Model 410 Tape Library provides an integrated, cost-effective solution for 8 mm tape users who need an automated way to back up their IBM RS/6000* systems. The IBM 7334 Model 410 is based on enhanced MammothTape technology combined with state-of-the art tape library engineering and design.

The 7334 Model 410 supports up to four Mammoth-2 (M2) 8 mm tape drives and three removable magazines with slots for thirty 8 mm cartridges-yielding a native capacity of up to 1.8 TB with library throughput of 173 GB/hour. With 2.5:1 compression, the 7334 Model 410 provides up to 4.5 TB of capacity and library throughput rates up to 432 GB/hour. Occupying just five rack units (5Us), this compact, high-performance library is designed to optimize data center space by providing up to 900 GB of native capacity per cubic foot (360 GB per unit of rack height).

The 7334 Model 410 is a robust backup solution capable of employing up to four 8 mm M2 tape drives to enable overlapping or concurrent operations. It connects to RS/6000 systems through a variety of SCSI attachments and features Adaptive Lossless Data Compression (ALDC), a state-of-the-art data compression technique developed by IBM.

Excellent investment protection
The 7334 Model 410 can read tapes written by many earlier 8 mm products-such as the IBM 7208 Model 341 and the IBM 7331 Model 305-protecting your 8 mm tape technology investment and helping to ensure data availability. The 7334 Model 410 also provides an excellent migration and interchange path from many other 8 mm tape drives.

High-quality media
The 7334 Model 410 uses IBM-certified 8 mm Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME) data cartridges with SmartClean technology. AME coating is designed to improve overall readability and reliability compared to metal-particle media. To help reduce user intervention and increase data integrity, each cartridge contains a 2-meter section of cleaning tape on either a 225, 150, or 75 meter cartridge containing 60, 40, or 20 GB of capacity respectively.

All cartridges are precision-manufactured to exact specifications to help ensure consistently high quality and reliability. Each cartridge features an IBM lifetime limited warranty.

You can order media for the 7334 Model 410 from IBM Media Supplies Distribution or from authorized dealers. To order IBM media and supplies in the United States, call toll free 1-888-IBM-MEDIA (1-888-426-6344).
