The IBM 7205 model 311 35GB External Digital Linear Tape Drive is an excellent solution for customers who use tape or require a larger-capacity or higher-performance tape backup. It can be an alternative product to other externally attached, 1/4-inch, 4mm, or 8mm tape devices for the RS/6000 family of workstations and servers.

The IBM 7205 is an external, stand-alone, SCSI-attached, digital linear tape drive that attaches to the RS/6000 family of workstations and servers. In addition to reading and writing on Digital Linear Tape-format tape data cartridges, the IBM 7205 provides an excellent migration path from 1/4-inch, 4mm, or 8mm tape drives. It is a very cost-effective solution for save-and-restore and archiving functions.

The IBM 7205 Model 311 features a native transfer rate of up to 5MB/sec, with a native cartridge capacity of 35 GB. The IBM 7205 model 311 also supports 2:1 data compression, providing an effective capacity of up to 70GB and an effective data transfer rate of up to 10MB/sec.

The IBM 7205 model 311 incorporates the latest generation of Digital Linear Tape technology, providing significant advantages in performance and capacity compared to previous versions.

With the IBM 7205's higher capacity and performance it is an excellent replacement for IBM 1/4-inch models (7207) or 4mm models (7206), and other competitive products where this capability is needed.
