Library Base Frame (L12, L22)
The Tape Library Base Frame is the base
unit of the Enterprise Tape Library. Each Control Unit contains: |
| |
| Features |
- Tape drives (3592 or 3590)
- Library manager - manages the
robotic tape accessor and the library tape cartridge inventory
- Cartridge accessor - robotic
accessor and gripper which controls tape cartridge movement within
the library. The optional dual gripper allows up to 610 mounts or
demounts per hour with the Dual Active Accessor Feature (DAA)
- Cartridge storage cells - the
control unit can be configured to hold up to 240 tape cartridge
storage cells
- Optional I/O stations - two
separate optional features that allow up to either 10 or 30
cartridges to be added or removed from the library without
interrupting library operations.

Tape Drive Expansion Frames
contain:
- Zero to twelve drives per frame depending
on the Drive Frame model.
- Up to 400 cartridge storage cells
- Up to fifteen drive units can be attached
to a single Lxx control unit.
The four Tape Drive Expansion Frames D12,
D14, D22 and D24, differ in cartridge storage cell capacity, tape subsystem
supported, and host platform attachment capability.
D12 is designed to attach up to six Native
Fibre Channel SCSI attached 3590 Tape Drives and will store from 230 up to
400 tapes cartridges.
D14 is designed to attach up to four ESCON/FICON
attached 3590 Tape Drives and will store from 275 to 400 tape cartridges.
D22 is designed to attach up to twelve FC
attached 3592 Tape Drives and will store from 230 to 400 tape cartridges.
D24 is designed to attach up to eight FC
attached 3592 Tape Drives and will store from 275 to 400 tape cartridges. |

The Tape Storage Frame provides the capability
for adding additional tape cartridge storage cells to the tape library.
Organizations can start small and grow in an affordable and incremental manner
by adding additional storage units when required.
Tape Storage Frame - S10: Up to fifteen
storage frames can attach to any Lxx control unit frame
Highlights
- The cartridges can be 3590 or 3592 tape
cartridges
- Each S10 provides storage for up to 400 tape

| Enterprise High Availability
Tape Frames (Model HA1) The
Enterprise High Availability Tape Frames (HA1) are designed to ensure you
have access to your data even if there is a failure of the library manager
or the cartridge accessor. It consists of two service bay units, one placed
at each end of the library, plus a second library manager and accessor. The
HA1 will operate in hot-standby mode if there is no dual active accessor
option.
In the event of a cartridge accessor or
library manager failure, the standby accessor and/or library manager will
take control of all operations in the library. The model HA1 is designed to
eliminate the library manager and the tape cartridge accessor as single
points-of-failure. |
| |
| Features |
 |
| An optional feature for the
High Availability Frame is the Dual Active Accessor. This feature
activates the library's second cartridge accessor enabling both accessors to
operate simultaneously. Highlights
of the HA1 Model:
- Second library manager
- Second cartridge accessor - single or dual
gripper
- Communication between two library managers
- Switching hardware for switching between
the two library managers
- Two service bays for storage of the second
accessor and service diagnostics for accessor repairs during library
operations.
Highlights of the Dual Active Accessor:
- Two active accessors in the same library
- Improved tape mount performance
- Improved cartridge inventory time.
