StorageWorks™ TL891DLX is an enhancement to the TL891 mainstream tape library.
It provides the same flexibility and scalability, with the advantage of greater
capacity and higher backup speed using the Compaq 40/80 GB DLT drive and LVD
SCSI interface.

The Compaq StorageWorks TL891DLX is a Mainstream Tape Library with one or
two 40/80 GB DLT drives and 10 cartridges, offering 400 GB (native) of
storage in a 4U-table top or rack configuration.
The Compaq StorageWorks TL891DLX is modular and can scale up to six
modules for a total capacity of 7.20 TB in a 24U space.
The Compaq StorageWorks TL891DLX offers an enhanced backup speed of 6 MB/s
(native) for each drive, providing a 12 MB/s (native) for a single module
with two drives. In a multi-unit configuration the backup speed can be
scaled up to 43.2 GB/hour.
The Compaq StorageWorks TL891DLX is qualified with Windows 2000 and
Windows NT, NetWare, Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS, as well as Compaq
ProLiant and AlphaServer product lines.
The Compaq StorageWorks TL891DLX is supported under Compaq Insight Manager
(CIM) and Compaq Tape Storage Management Console (TSMC).

Each library installation will require, (1) library system, (1)
geographically specific power cord, (1) differential SCSI cable for
each DLT drive pair, and up to 10 pieces of DLT media with bar code
labels for each TL891DLX. Multiple configurations will require
additional pass-through kits.
The minimum orderable configuration consists of a single library
system (for instances where customer already has the necessary SCSI
cables, power cord, and media).
Installation services may also be ordered for customers who want
to have a certified Compaq Engineer perform an on-site library
installation.

Expansion Unit
The MiniLibrary
Expansion Unit assumes control over all attached TL891DLX modules,
allowing for the creation of a multi-module virtual library in a single
rack mount configuration. It also provides an additional 1.28 TB (2:1
Compression) of capacity (no drives). The Expansion Unit supports up to
(5) five additional modules in a single rack mount configuration. With
the use of a special pass-through mechanism, all tapes within this
multi-module configuration are available to all DLT drives, making a
single virtual library.
This true scalability of performance and capacity allows the end user
the opportunity to configure the device to meet their specific
requirements, as well as offers a "‘pay as you grow" solution for easy
capital management. The multi-unit configuration can also be
disassembled at any time and each module redeployed independently to
meet changing corporate backup strategies.

Data Unit is a 16-cartridge slot rack mount module, which provides for
additional capacity (up to 1.28 TB of 2: 1 compressed storage) in a

Digital Linear
Tape uses a proven linear recording technology, a highly accurate tape
guide system, and a read after write LZ correction system to provide
high-capacity, high reliability data backup and restoration. DLT has
fast become the industry-standard secondary storage tape format for
departmental and enterprise backup. The Compaq 40/80 DLT drives used in
the TL891DLX can read previous versions of DLT cartridges (DLT tape IV,
DLT tape IIIxt and DLT tape III).

The TL891DLX
library configurations are fully supported through Compaq Insight
Manager 4.90 and Compaq TSMC V1.2 (tape storage management console),
providing information to administrators for both robotic and tape status
changes. Other data and automation manageability features are provided
via specific third party applications software packages.
