DESCRIPTION
Tape Array III, a 5U rackmountable enclosure that houses up to four DLT or
SDLT tape drives, is ideal for customers needing a tape array that
accommodates both single-ended and LVD SCSI tape drives.
Tape Array III comes in two MOD4 SKUs (fully populated
with DLT 40/80 or SDLT 110/220 tape drives) and a MOD0 SKU (unpopulated).
The base SKUs have cabling for two buses, accommodating two drives per bus
when fully populated. A cable option kit can be purchased to allow for four
separate buses, one for each drive to increase performance. This cable
option kit will also serve as a means to upgrade Tape Array II units in the
field that customers would like to populate with DLT 40/80 or SDLT 110/220
tape drives.

The DLT Tape Array III provides up to 880GB of storage space
(compressed) in a 5U rack mount enclosure. Supporting up to 4 drives,
the Tape Array III is fully compatible with both DLT and SDLT tape
devices.
Overview
The
Compaq DLT Tape Array III is a tape backup solution that houses up to
four DLT or SDLT tape drives in a 5U rack mount enclosure. The DLT Tape
Array III replaces the DLT Tape Array II, while providing customers with
a backup solution that accommodates both SE and LVD tape devices.

Tape Drives Supported
The
DLT Tape Array III can support up to (4) full-height tape drives.
Current models include configurations with (4) DLT 40/80 or SDLT 110/220
tape drives installed. The Tape Array III can also support previously
released DLT tape drives including both the DLT 35/70 and 20/40.

Drives Per Bus
Each model is shipped standard with cabling for (2) buses that can
accommodate (2) tape drives per bus. A cable option kit can be purchased
to allow for (4) separate buses, accommodating (1) tape drive per bus
while maximizing overall performance.
Performance
A
maximum data transfer rate of 88 MB per second or 316.8 GB hour can be
achieved with 4 SDLT 110/220 drives installed while utilizing 2:1 data
compression.

Compatibility and Integration Testing
The
DLT Tape Array III uses in-house technology, which ensures the customer
of full compatibility with Compaq ProLiant and Alpha Servers and
Adapters. Compaq thoroughly tests products with leading software and
operating systems, including VERITAS Backup Exec and CA ARCserve.
Manageability
Software management tools, Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) and Tape Storage
Management Console (TSMC), are shipped with both Model 4 units. These
software applications allow customers to easily manage servers and
attached tape devices. Both applications are also available with upgrade
tape drives purchased for the Model 0.
Options Supported
The
DLT Tape Array III is supported by a wide range of options including
upgrade DLT tape drives, media packs, cable kits, SCSI adapters, and
controllers.

Compaq Insight Manager
Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) is a software application designed to help
customers easily manage network devices. CIM provides extensive fault,
configuration, performance, and asset management information, as well as
visual control of your Compaq devices.
Tape Storage Management Console
Compaq Tape Storage Management Console (TSMC) is a storage-management
tool for centralized SCSI attached or SAN fibre attached tape devices.
TSMC provides diagnostic capabilities, field replaceable unit (FRU)
identification, and firmware upgrade capabilities from a host driven
management console.
SmartStart and Support Software
Compaq SmartStart contains several software applications that simplify
server configuration and maintenance. SmartStart ensures a fully
manageable server by configuring the Compaq Server Management Agents and
other system software.
CS Support
Compaq Services provides a three-year, limited warranty, fully supported
by a worldwide network of resellers, service providers, and hardware
technical phone support during the warranty period. In addition,
available service offerings include a full range of CarePaq packaged
hardware and software services or customised service offerings to cover:
