solution. And with the Compaq DAT Autoloader, you can have weeks
or even months of unattended backup.
As backup windows get smaller and server
primary storage gets larger, the demand for high performance and
capacity increases as well. The 12/24 GB DAT Drive provides
higher reliability with an upward migration path to higher
capacity, performance and greater reliability for current DDS-1
and DDS-2 customer base. In addition to DDS-3 (125 meter) media,
the Compaq 12/24 GB DAT drive is also completely read and write
compatible with DDS format (60 meter and 90 meter) and DDS-2
format (120 meter) media. A new time tracking feature enhances
the ability to interchange data with out-of-specification DAT
drives which allows Compaq to grow the after market business of
tape options in the DAT market place.
The 12/24 GB DAT Drive is twice as fast with
over three times the capacity of the 4/8 GB DAT Drive. The most
demanding users on an enterprise network now have a solution
that matches their growing backup demands.
Another added feature incorporated into the
12/24 GB DAT Drive is the automatic head cleaning sweeper
mechanism which allows the drive to automatically dislodge
debris from the drum during a read-write recovery procedure.

Disaster Recovery -
DRTape
The 12/24-GB DAT tape drive
has been improved with the added feature of DRTape. DRTape insures that
in case of a system failure, you will be able to restore your system
from a single tape.
What is Disaster Recovery: A 12/24-GB DAT Tape Drive that can:
Under Disaster Recovery (DR) situations, ID itself as a boot
device
Hold enough information to bring the system up for a DR restore
from tape
Is completely self-contained in that it needs no other software or
CD’s to restore the system.
Manageability
Supported through Compaq
Insight Manager, alerting the administrator when tape status changes or
when rewrite/reread thresholds are exceeded.
Compaq is now offering TSMC – Tape Storage Management Console with
every tape drive. This utility allows customers to monitor their tape
drives for pre-failure analysis and allows customers to upgrade their
tape drive firmware when necessary.
