Easy to Manage Offsite Data Protection
StoreVault Replication enables administrators
to replicate data from a StoreVault S550 to one or more “destination” StoreVault
S500 units. File-based or block-based data can be easily replicated over a WAN
to a remote location to protect data in the event of a disaster or to distribute
data to remote offices.

StoreVault Replication provides simple,
easy-to-manage off-site data protection. It is based on Network Appliance™
SnapMirror® technology and replicates data to one or more StoreVault S550
appliances in multiple fashions, including one to one, one to many, many to one,
and round robin. Replication is a useful tool for offsite backup, data
distribution, or simple round-robin geographic disaster insulation. Source data
can be automatically updated to remote StoreVault units while the locally
created originals remain in service. Replicated data is periodically updated to
remain current and available for applications such as disaster recovery,
offloading tape backup, read-only data distribution, testing on nonproduction
storage systems, online data migration, and more.
StoreVault Replication software has many
bandwidth-saving features that lower the infrastructure cost of data replication
and disaster recovery. After replication is initialized, only new and changed
blocks need to be updated over the network. By replicating only changes,
StoreVault Replication significantly reduces network
bandwidth requirements. In addition, StoreVault Replication takes checkpoints
during data transfers. If a transfer is interrupted, it will restart from the
most recent checkpoint. StoreVault Replication also performs intelligent
resynchronization, eliminating the need for full transfers when recovering from
a broken replica or loss of synchronization.

StoreVault Replication Key Features |
| Feature
|
Benefit |
|
Enterprise-Proven
Replication Technology |
Uses Network Appliance
SnapMirror technology for fast, reliable data replication. |
| Ease of Configuration |
Simple scheduler interface
allows you to set up replication in minutes. |
| Optimized for WAN
Environments |
Only changed data is
transmitted. Checkpoints and intelligent resynchronization eliminate need
for full transfer after update is interrupted. |
| Remote Access to Replicated
Data |
Accesses read-only copies of
replicated data at remote locations for off-site backup or data
distribution. |
|
Scheduled Asynchronous
Updates |
Replicas are updated as often as
every four hours based on the selected schedule. |
|
Flexible Configurations |
StoreVault Replication can be
added as an option to an existing StoreVault S550 to make it either a source
or destination for replication. Supports one-to-one, one-to-many,
many-to-one, and roundrobin configurations. |

Topologies |
• One to one. One source is
copied to one destination (Figure 1 below).
• One to many. One source is copied to many destinations (Figure 2 below).
• Many to one. Many sources are copied to one destination (Figure 3 below).
• Round-robin or cascaded. One source is copied to one destination, but
incorporates multiple StoreVaults. This ensures that a copy always exists in
another location. (Figure 4 below). |
