Snapshot Technology Enabling instant backup and instant restore From time to time we all need to be able to go back and recover our files. Typically this involves going back through the backup tapes and rebuilding or recovering files and volumes, a process that can take hours, even days. NetApp Snapshot technology provides point-in-time images of the entire file system that can be recorded instantly with no disruption of applications or performance. These images enable instantaneous recovery of individual files, directories or even the entire file system. Snapshots may be taken on demand or taken on a pre-defined schedule, effectively eliminating the need for incremental backups. Up to 250 snapshot images per volume may be kept before overwriting. Snapshot technology also removes the dreaded "backup-window" allowing you to perform full backups at any time you chose without the need to shut down applications or disrupt users. Snapshot technology is simple to use and provides a significant additional layer of data protection. All of the security attributes are maintained with the snapshot image so that end users can be authorized to recover their own lost or corrupted files.
