The Quantum DXi2500-D is the deduplication and remote replication appliance that provides secure, low cost backup and fast, certain restores for small and medium businesses and for remote offices in distributed Enterprises. DXi® solutions provide disk backup and restore performance, using Quantum’s deduplication technology to reduce capacity needs by 90% or more and to lower costs. For off-site protection, users can create removable media locally or replicate backup data to a second site for DR planning and centralized tape operations. Because it transmits only unique data, DXi replication technology can reduce bandwidth requirements by a factor of 50 or more, turning existing WANs into DR networks. With the DXi2500-D, users see fast, reliable backup and restore, lights out DR protection, centralized tape operations, and lower costs across both virtual and physical servers.

Quantum DXi2500-D units include preconfigured deduplication, NAS presentation, replication, and support for Symantec’s OpenStorage (OST) API as standard features, making them easy to install and manage. They are replication compatible with all DXi-Series disk backup systems built on Quantum’s deduplication software layer. With Quantum, all disk systems and tape resources can be managed from a single tool—Quantum’s Vision™ management software—and are supported by the industry’s leading support and professional services organizations.

Replication
Replication compatible with all DXi-Series products. Replication is asynchronous, one-to-one or multiple-to-one configurations; partitions in same unit act as replication source or target; units with partitions acting as replication targets can also support local backup; data is deduplicated prior to transmission; file-by-file replication provides immediate, automated access to data at the target; CLI support provides scripting/scheduling. Application-aware replication is supported through support for Symantec OpenStorage API (OST).

OST support
Symantec OpenStorage (OST) API Support. Support for OST is included on all DXi2500-D units, allowing users to write data to OST logical storage units (LSUs) and enabling application-aware replication. DXi-Series units with direct tape path capability (DXi7500 and DXi6500 models) support the OST direct path to tape introduced in NetBackup 6.5.4.
