Quantum Disk Based Backup
Quantum Tape Libraries
Sunstar
Company, Inc. is proud to be a Quantum partner!
DX100
The Quantum DX100 addresses the most
significant backup challenges facing IT professionals: meeting short backup
windows, confidence that backups are complete, and the ability to quickly
restore data when needed. With Quantum's patent-pending Optyon™ In-line
Data Compression, the DX-Series is the first and only open system disk-based
virtual tape library to offer hardware based compression! Optyon™ hardware
compression allows users to effectively double their usable capacity with
approximately 2:1 compression ratio* – without decreasing the performance of
the backup server or the DX100 processor!
 | High availability features such as RAID 5
and redundant, hot-swappable components |
 | Back up to 2TB/hr to meet short backup
windows and provide quick restores |
 | Restore files 5 to 10 times faster than a
conventional tape library |
 | Up to 64TB total raw capacity in 4TB
increments |
 | Supported by every major backup software
vendor |
|
The DX100 enhances an existing tape backup system by separating the backup
target from the backup archive. After installing a DX100, backup jobs are
sent directly to the DX100 (the backup target) with throughput up to
2TB/hr.

With the Quantum DX100 system, high
availability features such as RAID 5 and redundant, hot-swappable components
are combined with blazing disk performance, which allows for more frequent
and reliable backup and restore operations. By emulating a tape library, the
DX100 seamlessly integrates into existing backup architectures without any
changes to existing processes. Since it emulates a tape library, the DX100
is also not susceptible to fragmentation, file or operating system overhead,
tuning, hackers, or volume management complexities. The DX100 truly
complements existing tape libraries (the backup archive) by allowing them to
focus on archive operations for disaster recovery and regulatory
compliance.
As a pioneer in open systems virtual tape,
Quantum Corporation introduced the award-winning DX100 disk-based virtual
tape library system over two years ago. Quantum is now the first open
systems vendor to offer hardware-based data compression via our
patent-pending Optyon In-line Data Compression card. It enables DX100 users
to double their usable capacity with approximately 2:1 compression. By
offloading data compression to a dedicated hardware adapter card, the backup
server and DX100 processor are not impacted. Competitor's disk-based systems
only offer software compression (if any at all), which can decrease
aggregate performance by 50% or more.

DX100 - Services and Support |
 |
|
|
Through Quantum StorageCare™ Service, a one-year on-site warranty: 5x9 next
day response comes standard with each DX100. A variety of hardware support
plans are available with up to 7x24x4 support in many countries around the
globe. Quantum also offers standard and custom integration packages for all
Quantum enterprise-class products in most environments and configurations.
The
DX100 is supported by StorageCare Guardian, Quantum's new proactive remote
monitoring solution. Leveraging the intelligence inside the DX100, Guardian
enables Quantum to proactively monitor the health of the library over the
Internet and use intelligent diagnostics data to remotely service the
equipment when something is wrong. Designed to deliver highly reliable
backups and rapid resolution time, Guardian is offered at no extra cost for
products under warranty or service contract. Guardian is easy to install and
can be downloaded online.
