Recertified Tape Hardware      

If you already have a service contract with either IBM or StorageTek, consider supplementing you hardware needs with recertified tape solutions at a significant discount.

“Carefully refurbished and tested using IBM specifications - you can acquire IBM product quality at a fraction of the original price.” IBM with Sunstar Company, Inc. (VAR) has and continues to be aware of the status of the hardware from the time the hardware is allocated, thru installation. Adding the “banded” tape drive or library to your existing maintenance contract takes mere minutes. The IBM engineer that is most familiar with your enviroment is the one that will perform the upgrade.

The same applies for STK. We will need to know a number of facts prior to making the arrangements with IBM or STK. In the case of adding additional drives, frames etc, IBM will ask for the model, serial number, firmware etc. Once this is confirmed it’s a matter of placing the order. The installation takes place and your service agreement has been updated.

The most common IBM upgrades are for adding additional 3590, LTO, 3592 tape drives and adding additional frames to your existing library.

As for STK, adding the appropriate tape drive, such as the T9940A, T9940B, or T9840A, T9840B or T9840C.

The Process

The hardware is removed and banded by the engineer, shipped and then when the need arises for that particular unit; it is dispatched to the end user’s sight. This unit can not be installed by anyone other than the appropriate engineer. Once the installation is complete, IBM assumes full responsibility for the new “banded” hardware and the transaction other that maintenance is complete.
