The IBM TotalStorage™ IP Storage
200i provides storage that is directly attachable to an Ethernet LAN. This
high-performance storage product implements newly emerging industry standards
for the transport of SCSI storage protocols over IP, commonly referred to as
iSCSI.

With its high-performance Pentium® III processors, the IBM IP Storage
200i family is engineered for customers who need the benefits that
IP-based pooled storage can provide. IP Storage 200i is designed to
support heterogeneous Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Linux clients. IBM
technological leadership provides the opportunity to take advantage of
many SAN-like capabilities without the infrastructure and support cost
of Fibre Channel SAN environments.IBM iSCSI and pooled storage
technology expertise extends the value that SANs can offer over the
Ethernet networks found in today's organizations. This also allows
broader utilization of the LAN skills base already available. Because
there is no need for a dedicated storage environment and Fibre Channel
network skills, return on investment can be increased. |

hardware architecture |

A 1.13-GHz Pentium III
processor with a dual-channel RAID
controller and six available internal storage bays powers the
compact tower model. With a basic storage capacity of 109.2 GB, this
model can be expanded up to 440.4 GB by upgrading to six 73.4 GB
hot-swappable hard disk drives. A conversion kit is available to
convert the tower-configuration model mechanically for rack
mounting. With two 1.13-GHz Pentium III processors, a four-channel
hardware RAID controller and internal storage of 109.2 GB to 440.4
GB, the rack-configuration model can be expanded by adding up to
three external additional enclosures, each holding up to fourteen
73.4 GB hot-swappable hard disk drives yielding a total of 3.52 TB
of storage. This model is designed to meet the compactness of a 5U
rack drawer. |
